On my way back from GalaCon 2016, I changed trains at Karlsruhe Hbf. When entering the station, I saw this blue beauty: 181 201 was the first specimen of the Deutsche Bundesbahn’s only class of bi-current electric locomotives to see a production run (and be it only 21 locomotives), and it’s the last one to still wear the original cobalt blue livery (most are now traffic red like 181 215 in the background). A unique machine sought after by German railfans.
 
As we all know, Seafoam loves trains, and she likes to ride across the country on the Friendship Express. So she simply had to take a closer look at this very special locomotive after I’ve shown it to her.
