I totally agree with you. “childish antics” sums up a lot of season 6. the last 3 episodes are in a whole different universe though!
Yeah, but at least then they felt essential to the series.
That was season one, my friend.
For sure. With how season 5 went, I was very optimistic about the CMC’s future focus, letting them develop more than ever, and On Your Marks seemed to kind of imply that idea, but then they disappeared for most of the rest of the season. Why tease us with stuff like them talking about how they’ll be doing all these new things and exploring their personal interests, then make the rest of the season.. like this? Apple Bloom definitely does normally get more attention than SB and Scoots, but I think that out of all the seasons, this one excluded her the most. And right after making that point about how they have all that new room to grow, too.
Somehow, though, I feel optimistic about season 7. I’d honestly be surprised if there’s not a ‘helping someone’ CMC episode where Sweetie takes control.
But the CMC are, y’know, also main characters? Like that’s kind of an important detail.
Because they’re the main characters. I can’t think of a recent Simpsons episode that didn’t have Homer as the focus of at least a subplot.
Apple Bloom has roughly 7 episodes. Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo each have two.
But we shouldn’t be arguing over that, we should be arguing over the real problem here: the M6.
M6 episodes have dropped in quality like a cinderblock over the Challenger Deep, and yet they still get triple, even quadruple the amount of attention the CMC do, even though the CMC episodes are almost always of higher quality.
I understand your frustration, but that’s really not fair. Apple Bloom wasn’t treated well in this season, either, even if that one episode had more focus on her than the other two. Don’t take the fact that there’s not much left to do with the other two out on her. Season 4 balanced the attention for each of them well enough with individual focus episodes, and a Sweetie-focused CMC episode (Twilight Time). Isn’t it better to wish for something like that than say Apple Bloom doesn’t deserve anything?
Starlight also tends to disappear during them too, apart from her spotlight episodes she’s rarely prominent.
Season 7 better just be Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo episodes otherwise there will be deaths
AB got like six lines, but I didn’t exactly count…
I meant episodes where Apple Bloom doesn’t have a speaking role.
“Seriously, if Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo aren’t given episodes in the next season, it’ll be over 3 years since their last ones (For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils and Flight to the Finish, respectively).”
Sweetie Belle also had Sisterhooves Social, and Scootaloo also had Sleepless in Ponyville.
This is coloring a very bad picture for season 6.
I don’t think they contractually can get solo episodes. Except for MMDW Apple Bloom’s been in every episode that features either of the other CMC…
Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo didn’t receive any new episodes specifically about them, while once again, Apple Bloom hogs the spotlight and gets her own episode like a jerk. The Cart Before the Ponies was only semi-about them, while their sisters took up most the episode (even hilariously enough, the episode being about how the M6 are hogging the spotlight from the CMC).
Which really means that On Your Marks and The Fault in Our Cutie Marks are the only “true” CMC episodes this season, and even then, On Your Marks focused on Apple Bloom almost entirely, leaving only the latter to fill in the gaps for Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo.
Seriously, if Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo aren’t given episodes in the next season, it’ll be over 3 years since their last ones (For Whom the Sweetie Belle Toils and Flight to the Finish, respectively).
It’s the huge gap between On Your Marks and The Cart Before the Ponies that hurts. Other than Scootaloo, they weren’t even given speaking lines until after the hiatus. That huge lack of secondary roles or even background appearances is noticeable to people who really care about them. If this week’s episode is good and treats Apple Bloom well, I think it’ll make up for it, for me.
But she’s always had the majority of the spot light ever since season 1
It’s just weird that Twilight it slowly losing her usual prominence.
Doesn’t mean she’ll always get more episodes. It just means she’s the main character.
Well, for the most part: she took a back seat in eg movies and this season, which I find refreshing. I don’t think she’s very good tbh and I think there are way better characters in the show such Dash, Starlight or Sunset that I wouldn’t mind seeing them take the spotlight.
On Your Marks
The Fault in Our Cutie Marks
The Cart Before the Ponies
Where the Apple Lies
I think Twi’s the 7.6%, and Star’s the 15.2%
