Otacon: Be careful, Starlight! Even if the enemy can’t see through camouflage, they might detect you by other means, such as sound or smell. Try not to draw attention to yourself!
Why is anyone afraid of Starlight taking over the show? She was in like 9 out of 24 episodes so far this season and one of those was a small supporting role and one was a silent cameo. I swear, people complain that she’s not there enough or she being shoved in our face, its ridiculous.
It like how people complained about the show being too focused on Twilight in seasons 2-4.
@Pagan
Telling someone they have “low standards” because they like something you think is “shit”, or because they disagree about your opinion of an episode, is absolutely an insult.
If you can’t be around this episode’s screenshots without complaining and insulting others, then take some of your own advice: calm down - and filter the episode until you are in a space where you can be tolerant of people who don’t agree with you.
@VermiIIion
Okay first calm down second I was only taking about the alicorn thing.
As for the punishment thing I already explained that, Starlight shouldn’t get special treatment above others if she does something wrong she should be held accountable for it just like everyone else. She’s not even a victim at no point was she the victim in her situations she was always the one on top it’s hard to have sympathy for someone who has never suffered. Her backstory was getting mad that her friend went to school which just a normal part of life and he was a foal if you get enrolled into school and your parents want you to go you go, she didn’t even attempt to contact him she didn’t even bother to walk down the street and make a new friend because she felt there was a chance she might be slightly inconvenienced by them. She became a villain for the pettiest of reasons and if there is more to her backstory it was never shown or talked about. So yeah you’ll have to forgive me if I don’t find her sympathetic when she always acts petty is on top of everyone else and acts evil for no reason. She got away scot free while others have been banished for less some of the other villains got a complete shaft, where was there positive reinforcement? Trixie got her home vandalized and lost her job over a single lie but Starlight gets nothing but praise for actually committing serious crimes, Like I said:
Understanding and helping doesn’t mean you shouldn’t punish them your actions have consequences they have to or you can’t learn from them, she should have gotten attention and help after she got a punishment like manual labor or something anything really. The problem with Discord was they didn’t trust him period even after his reformation so obviously he didn’t have much of an attachment to them it’s good they learned from that but they still messed up because they traded one extreme for the other instead of not being forgiving at all they’re too forgiving. Forgiveness needs to be tempered with accountability
You need a mixture of sterness and mercy. Let me put it this way if you put your hand on a lit stove the pain teaches you to not touch it again because you KNOW it will hurt and you KNOW what it will feel like, if you can’t feel the pain you might leave your hand there and damage it. You have to be reprimanded for purposefully doing bad things even if you believe what you are doing is right on some level if you never have consequences you can’t feel compelled to not do it again. It’s why kids get time outs or have something taken away from them to teach them not to do something they shouldn’t be doing, it doesn’t mean you hate them it just means you want them to understand doing bad things makes bad things happen to others and them, you can be positive towards them and explain it but it takes more than that to get those teachings to stick you can’t get away with everything all the time or you’ll start to think you’re untouchable.
I want to see Starlight improve but she shouldn’t get a free pass for doing the wrong things, be positive and understanding but also be stern and fair.
@Pagan
Low standards? It’s a fucking cartoon. Sorry I don’t take fictional miniature candy colored equines seriously.
I can see that Starlight does and is still learning her lessons. Her avoidance of leadership, afraid she will lose control or have those expect something of her. Her lack of social ability causing her to think magic is the best solution. Unlike everyone else, I can recognize Starlight’s Reformation took more than just a day but rather many days. Do you expect them to bake cupcakes, make a dress, buck apples, and do spells all in the same day?
I can also recognize the importance of teaching her rather than punishing her. What exactly would punishing her serve? To teach her it was wrong? The better solution would be for Starlight to be taught friendship lessons in a positive setting rather than a negative one. Why exactly would you want to punish a powerful unicorn that can literally go toe to toe with an alicorn?
And no, I don’t expect Starlight to become an alicorn. We already have a princess of magic. But I still wouldn’t give one iota of a shit, as the backlash would be just as funny if not even more hilarious as the Princess Twilight backlash.
@The Walhi Llama
Agreed and honestly I’m not opposed to Starlight I’m willing to accept her if they would just give us some closure for her actions, I kind of find her interesting she’s a psychopath who believes magic is always the answer and thinks she knows best when in reality she doesn’t, her lack of social understanding and cold logic are interesting and seeing her slowly grow past that is like watching a robot gain awareness and I find that fascinating. She has potential I just wish she had some accountability to her actions and that they would cut back on her importance in the series a little.
@Pagan
I think that may be the source of all my animosity towards Starlight, accountability.
She hasn’t been held accountable for her actions by anyone other than herself, if that.
You might disagree with me, but in my opinion she hasn’t been sufficiently punished for her mistakes, and brainwashing/mind control as well as almost literally destroying the world are pretty big “mistakes”
@kztxl7
Starlight had alicorn levels of power and almost trapped herself and Twilight in a permanent time loop she was a massive threat as not even Twilight could handle her (convenient since she wasn’t that powerful before). I’m going to sit in the camp that prefers Starlight’s Reformation over Discord’s.
Did they basically hold Discord at gunpoint and with loss of Fluttershy? Sure. But do take into account that Discord was and really still the single most powerful entity aside from the Tree of Harmony in the series. Meanwhile, powerful as Starlight is I wouldn’t put her anywhere in the same tier as Discord in those regards.
I consider her reformation better simply because the starting point of it was not “Let’s blast them with some ancient powerful relics, let them stew in their mess for awhile and come back and deal with it later”.
They did something that could and should be emulated by kids and people in general. Understand why someone has a problem, talk to them and help them past it like Twilight did in the S5 finale.
And she can’t hide Trixie’s scent also.
Now if she’d just stop stealing my socks….
It like how people complained about the show being too focused on Twilight in seasons 2-4.
For what it’s worth I am sorry I honestly didn’t mean that as an insult. I just thought the alicorn thing sounded weird.
I was slightly insulted, but it wasn’t really that big of a deal.
I’ll PM you.

It wasn’t an insult.
