Bring Rei, but leave Asuka. Shinji’s just a scared young man possibly suffering from some form of (still) advancing psychosis. He isn’t violent unless pushed to be, usually by some cosmic monster trying to make a snack out of him.

This make me remember why i don’t watch much anime recently. The fact that maturity and friendship ALWAYS must be expressed, sooner or later, with a punch in the face make me depressed. But i suppose i’m just emo self-centered too. :(

On it’s not just the movie, it’s the show to, he reject instrumentality thinking that instrumentality will make everyone happy but he doesn’t deserve to be happey, and he’s not forcing then to stay.  
So your all wrong about him, he’s not going to do anything to the pony to upset them deliberately.

SRW Shinji had loads of friends, those friends helped him to overcome his anime canon problems (they also beated the shit outta him to make him recover his senses and stop the third impact) and makr him more like your average mecha anime hero.

Umm no, it’s been put forward that the bit at the end with him thinking he was alone(before seeing Asuka) was he didn’t think he deserved to be happy and in doing that he left the door open for other people to come back.

@Sjogre I think the Universe enjoys self-fulfilling prophecies, since a lot of what happens to Shinji results in him technically doing everything to himself via means he can’t control. XD

@Nightjack Weeellll, that’s legitimately different. Cranky was mature and simply lovesick. Shinji is 14, emotionally unstable, immensely self-centered (no joke, this is canon-justified), so possessed of sexual tension that he starts seeing Freudian cues everywhere, and generally pissed off at the world for his daddy’s crimes. This culminated in him exterminating mankind for his own happiness, and only returning them back to existence when the results spooked him. Crank is zen as f*** compared to Shinji. XDDD

What your saying Sjogre makes more sense, ya that might happen but he wouldn’t do anything deliberately to other like you said.
