If you’re referring to an Aesop, which is the only thing I can see above that could be mistaken for an abbreviation or acronym, it’s not.
 
Aesop was a Greek storyteller famous for his fables, collectively known as Aesop’s Fables. They often ended in a morale. When something uses a similar format, as lots of shows today do, the outcome for an episode is shorthanded as “learning the Aesop”, or the moral of the episode. For Bridle Gossip, the “Aesop” was don’t judge a book by its cover and don’t assume the worst of someone without actual knowledge. For Newbie Dash it was act like yourself and don’t try to be something you’re not. And so on.

They most definitely can, but they just don’t. It boils down to a good list of cultural differences and unfounded fears/beliefs. For one thing, lamias have different social cues and behaviors than ponies, like for example they tend to turn aggressive when threatened while they also like to wrap around and/or nuzzle others they like (which can easily be misinterpreted as an attempt to strangle or bite). On the pony side, there is the persistent belief that lamias have a pony upper body to decieve and lure prey. And of course, in my continuity they come from an entirely different country so there’s not been much chance for the two species to make peace or interact with one another.
 
Long story short, it’s a long list of misinterpretations, stereotypes, and fears, not all of which are unfounded and unjustified. Of course, Twilight being afraid of snakes certainly doesn’t help either.
