Like many elements in SpongeBob, it really depends on the episode. In some he’s treated like the living Walt Disney with the Krabby Patty being seen as a phenomenon (The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie), and sometimes he’s viewed as a jerkish pariah by everyone (The Krabby Kronicle). Then you get to Mutiny on the Krusty which is a mixture of both, which is why it’s my least favourite of Season 9b, because the background fish and their behaviour are just so confusing.
