Season 4 had an arc plot. In that it had an episode that only nebulously established something, several completely unrelated episodes that referenced that thing, and then an episode about something completely different that resolved that thing.
 
Having something actually happen that isn’t immediately resolved in one episode, however? Not going to happen.

Season 4 did have a technical story arc throughout it didn’t it? Still didn’t stop the finale from using a magic problem solving solution. At least it was kickass and fun to watch and the villain had just been introduced in that episode so it works better.

I think it’s less that this is rushed and more that the rest of the season had nothing to do with any of this. And that’s really the major problem of the show’s big setpiece two-parters. The show’s own absolute refusal to do any kind of ongoing plot.

The show staff never know how much time they’ve got left. How many awesome shows have been cancelled in the midst of an interesting arc? I’d rather the show wrap up half decently then hanging by a thread.

I know you feel strongly about this so I won’t argue with you on the matter. All that matters to me is Chrysalis is still Chrysalis and all the more awesome for it after this finale.

If they had decided not to take the magic bullshit solving everything approach and held off on reforming the changelings for later, we cold have had a great relationship between the ponies and changelings with the two species learning each others customs and attempting to adapt to one another and Chrysalis could have acted as a meteator with Twilight solving disputes, Chrysalis would still be foreboding in her approach while Twilight would try to show her other methods, we could have had her show up more often like Discord and still be how she is while at the same time trying to support her kind and keep the alliance going.

Chrysalis was never among my favourites but she’ll always hold a special place in my heart just for dishing out this righteous smack down.
 
She should get more episodes but she must never be redeemed or we will lose something precious.
