I heard Faust wanted some episodes to explore themes of darkness with Luna but Hasbro didn’t let that come to past.  
Heck, we could have had Luna accepting NMM as part of herself and as a friend and use those dark powers to protect Equestria. That would have been so good.

That is true. It’s My Fair Lady and Grease all over again. Unfortunately, I have trouble seeing the stigma reevaluating itself because, well, this is only part of it, but modern writing in general is nowhere as complex and in-depth as older books and films. I feel there is some sort of inert problem with a vast majority of modern mediums involving murky story progression and mishandling of characterizations and archetypes. I cannot efficiently describe the problem because I’m not very good at in-depth analysis… ^3^

Doesn’t matter their narrative potential is gone they no longer have a real motivation for their actions they are now one dimensional team rocket villains. The divide that has been created that you must be these new versions to be considered good and must be converted and be like us to be accepted ruins any possible interactions the show could have had between the two species since it’s basically just ponies interacting with ponies, there are no obstacles or differences to face between each other to overcome.
 
The message it sends that you must change to be accepted and that you look the way you do because you are “evil” and you will become “beautiful” if you are “good” is stupid. Now there is this stigma that the other changelings are lesser and these new ones are superior and must become like them is just wrong.
 
The writers could not fuck up changelings more if they tried.

Not to the point where people were like “yeah I wish this redesign was canon and completely replaced her current look” they were fine as they were one of the few things that were unique in this show and one of the only things that had any contrast to the world everything is bright and colorful and you need contrasting elements in a show. It’s one of the reasons the new powerpuff girls doesn’t work, the old version were about soft round girls in a world of pointy environments and characters even the adults had sharp edges but in the new series everything is cutesy and soft just like them there is no contrast.
 
It also made their unique anatomy and biological functions mundane as well, they needed love to survive it’s what they fed on, feeding on emotions is interesting especially when that emotion is love but now it’s pointless since they can just feed on each other it no longer plays any kind of important role like it did before.

It’s a shame that even a show like this subscribes to Dark = Evil.

I’d presume the redesign was probably applied to make them less evil-looking. Still, in black-and-green, it’d have looked fine as well: No holes, no fangs, smoother horns and ears, fly/mosquito wings changed to beetle. (Because the world is round… X3 )
 
Fans have ponified Chrys and changelings a bit, yeah? :j

Because we finally had a species that was different and wasn’t eye bleedingly colorful that also had tons of potential but are now gaudy and mundane, everything has to look like the ponies apparently can’t have anything different. The changelings were beautiful in their own right and were a breathe of fresh air in contrast to the bright world but now they are just like everything else and do not stand out like they used to.
 
You may not have been a fan of the changelings before but many of us were and could see their value and appeal in the show and now that’s gone.
