Palms are probably in their own category.
They’re still not grass.
Most “true trees” branch and grow rings.
Palms on the other hand, only grow taller and almost never branch.

There is some debate over whether palms are classified as trees, but they’re definitely not grass. You’re probably thinking of bamboo.
