I dunno anon, I’d hit it. Although, my standards are so bottom of the barrel that they had to get a new barrel, and I scraped the bottom of that so hard, I hit dirt.

The comic here is very much in jest, and I’m not referring to it as hate. Hate is the idea that recognizing that bronies are a subset of furries is “mislabeling” because there’s somehow something wrong with being a furry, and there needs to be some other label for those who don’t like what they are. Sorry, but liking a cartoony talking horse with forward-facing eyes is liking furry art. Even if it’s the only kind of furry art you like, it’s furry art, and by liking it you’re liking furry art. No furry likes all furry art; we all like some things, care nothing for some other styles either way, and hate still others. There’s a lot of furry art I don’t like, but there’s plenty of other things I do like, so I’m still a furry. A brony is just a furry who likes MLP-related furry art. (I also doubt there are many bronies who like only MLP-related furry art. And even fewer who have ever gotten over the prejudice and looked at other furry art, and still like only MLP. You yourself like both.)

“And the furries are just as mad when non-anthro pony art goes up on their sites.” Really? Because there are a LOT of olde tyme furries at the core of MLP fandom, and they’re not bitching. A hell of a lot of the artists here were known as furry artists long before FiM existed. So no, most furries aren’t mad about non-anthro pony art, they’re producing and enjoying it on the furry sites. It’s just a few vocal, juvenile asshats who are mad. Some furries like quadruped MLP furry art, and some don’t, just like some bronies like EqG and some don’t. In 27 years in furry fandom I haven’t met anyone who likes simply everything. Every furry likes certain things but doesn’t like others. It’s fair to say that some people who like muscular lions with thick, throbbing, veiny roosters don’t like slender lionesses with big, heavy songbirds, reaching down to spread their cats. And some people who like movie-accurate depictions of Mrs. Brisby and Fievel aren’t fond of anime mouse girls who might as well be human aside from little round ears sticking out of their hairdo. And vice versa in both cases. And there are other furries who like lions and lionesses, but not mice. And furries who like anthro MLP but not anatomically correct horse parts on show-accurate ponies. And some furries even among the brony subset who like the ears-on-headbands style of EqG, and some who hate it. Like it or not, anthro, and anime anthro to boot, is a canonical part of MLP itself. Not liking EqG doesn’t make one “not a brony.” Likewise, not liking non-MLP furry art doesn’t make one “not a furry.”

I’ve never heard anyone but you complain that the issue is the horror of seeing nice things twice. I’m happy to see my favorite pony clop from here on paheal, DA, and FurAffinity. Yes, it’d be a problem if I saw Fievel doing Mrs. Brisby here; this is a site for a specific subgenre, like I wouldn’t expect to see that on a G-rated board either. But if a specific thing is appropriate to two boards, it should be on both. The horror, you might see something twice? Who gives a flying orange canid? I mean, Webster’s and OED don’t negotiate which one is allowed to be the sole source of which words. They both display everything relevant, and you find the word you need in whichever one happens to be at hand. If a word is only ever found in British English, maybe OED would have it and Webster’s wouldn’t. But that’s because it’s only relevant to OED’s readership, not because Webster’s decided that since OED has it, they shouldn’t contain that word too. Most MLP content is straight-up furry art that just happens to be about cartoon horses rather than anthropomorphic mice or zoomorphic talking foxes.

“This pretending that both groups are the same is very destructive to both fandoms.” I never said they were the same. An elbow is not the same thing as an arm. Furry is the overall fandom, and bronies is a currently large subset. Yes, if you’re on a brony-specific board like this, you shouldn’t find an image of Chester Cheetah mounting Sonny the Cuckoo. But you should find one of Twilight Sparkle tickling a gagged, naked Trixie on paheal as well as here, because it’s furry porn as well as MLP-related. And you shouldn’t expect to find either on a G-rated MLP board. You don’t need to force everyone into narrow content ghettoes just because you can’t figure out the filters each of the sites already provide. And if you ever occasionally run across something you don’t like, or do like but already saw? You should ask the Clinton Foundation to give you the money they were going to give to AIDS victims in Africa, you obviously have it so much worse than them. You say it’s nice to filter by site? I say it’s nice to be able to find the type of furry art I’m looking for in the place I search.

But why should anyone care what other people think? That just isn’t true. They’re two separate Internet sub-cultures. I’ll say this again but subcultures, especially on the Internet, do not like being compared to each other. And it’s not only bronies. I’ve seen a strong backlash from people who like Cat Girls or Monster Girls when they’re called furries too. It comes down that in the end they’re separate communities with some overlap.

@Ferrotter
My problem with calling it “furry art” is that it’s not recognized as “furry art” except by furries. It’s an artstyle that predates furries by a long, long time. I think it’s inane trying to equate a popular and well-know style synonymous with some obscure Internet group.
Plus what exactly is “furry art”? What is the criteria? I’ve heard the term “anthropomorphic animals” but the term anthropomorphic is a very broad term. In MLP context it ranges from the ponies from the show to anthro to humanized. Do you think people would label humanized art as furry? And what about non-anthropomorphic MLP art? There’s people on both camps that wouldn’t consider pony art furry. Some furries I’ve seen see it as bestiality and some on this side don’t see as that because it’s not anthro.
I believe that it isn’t and you can like MLP art without being a furrie. I think the only furry art is original art that comes from within the furry fandom with original content. Otherwise you reach a scenario where most people are “furries” for liking a popular genre of art.

I don’t think you actually understand what he’s getting at. He’s saying that to people outside our two little groups, we’re all Furries to be mocked, so why fight about amongst ourselves as well?

Most anthro hate I’ve seen comes from /mlp/. But that’s to be expected since in 4chan anthro is synonymous with furry and those dudes have a history in hating that group.
I’ve seen some here too. Especially from folk who hate to see any sort of humanized elements on the ponies never mind the fact that the ponies are already humanized, both physically and mentally. Some want the ponies to be minimally anthropomorphic like the ponies from the show, some want them to be half way anthropomorphic like anthro and others prefer their characters to be fully anthropomorphic like humanized.
It’s just the way things are, I guess. But it’s not limited to anthro. I’ve seen people who like anthro hate on humanized and vice versa as well.

The only time I see anthro hate that isn’t done in jest, like it is here, is when someone thinks they’re really clever comparing Bronies to Furries. You are giving us incentive to try and seperate ourselves so that we do not get mislabled. You are creating the divide, you are the problem.

Not liking anthro more than anything just comes down to taste. That and we have like 6 high quality sites we could be using instead if that was our thing. And that’s what my problem is with it. I go to furry sites already and end up seeing the same art twice. The anthro art here too often overshadows the stuff I want to see, the stuff I’ve not seen already. And the furries are just as mad when non-anthro pony art goes up on their sites. Because if they wanted to see that, they’d come here. This is about disorganization.

This is someone making toast and getting crumbs in the butter. It’s nice to be able to filter what you see by site. I even had MLP blacklisted on most other sites, until I had to keep going offsite for Flash files. And filtering anthro here means I’ll probably miss the image totally as people don’t upload MLP stuff as much to furry sites, due to the “quadruped hate”. It’s ironic, but this want to post all images on all boards is what’s caused things to become divided. To cause people to hate. This pretending that both groups are the same is very destructive to both fandoms.
