The natural aspect of it is one of the reasons I like it so much. Of all the m6 ships, I feel it’s the one that needs the least “extra” to happen to become more than friendship. All others would need to have some other catalyst that doesn’t exist on screen and is often fabricated in fics.

Tchernobog YuwenTaiji Wow. What the duck happened here? I’m all for AppleDash, but I sorta love-hate RariJack. What I have noticed about RariJack is that it needs to be instigated by Twilight; RariJack’s “best moments” are instigated only when Twilight is around. AppleDash, just kinda happens, it’s so natural.

The ‘bromance’ is the thing, though! Their relationship is already excellent. And unlike what people think, they really have not fought since Fall Weather Friends. They’ve argued/had differences of opinions on the subjects at hand in the episode, but there’s not been a fight since season 1. Their friendship is already fantastic - and multiple times we’ve seen instances of their ability to wordlessly understand each other (making fun of the Crystal castle to annoy Rarity, and later on using their super fast method in the library to move books off the shelves). No planning required, they just know each other so well already that they knew the other would back them up. It’s precisely because of that already fantastic level of friendship that there’s only a very small push needed for them to become more, and that’s a large part of why I enjoy them.

Compare it to what you said: there’s been fights constantly in near every season for RariJack. While I don’t agree that ‘a couple who never fight is not a good sign’, a couple that never seems to STOP fighting is arguably much, much worse. And while the subjects of said fights has changed, the fights still happen. “That’s actually how real life couples work” is… far, far too broad a statement. There’s immense evidence of couples who work in a million different ways that your statement is just not accurate.

Not that Applejack’s Day Off is really a good example to use. That episode was terribly written. AJ is stubborn, yes, but she’s practial. Making her insist on a spa session with a line that long is just bad writing on her part. I can kinda see the whole ‘too used to doing it in one way that she didn’t consider other ways’ thing they had going, but they wrote it in a fashion to plain and simply make her look like an idiot - which she isn’t by any means.

Applejack’s Day Off is AJ’s absolute worst episode - it shouldn’t be used as an example for anything relating to AJ’s character.

I won’t argue that AJ and Rarity don’t understand each other - they certainly have learned a lot over the seasons, and they’ve grown closer, as they have with the other four of the group. But understanding does not equate attraction.

And finally, I feel AJ does certainly understand AJ more than Rarity does. (“How dare she take time to repair the spa instead of relaxing!”). But that results in even less patience for Rarity’s shit.

No one can show the same level of contempt towards Rarity’s antics (saving someone from buying a ’fashion disaster) as AJ and her eyebrow can.

@Mojo
Dash has many good pairings but I can’t find a single romantic ship for her tbh, so I just went with the funniest pair for her, which is Twilight :D

And you really don’t have to reply to Tchernobog, or any other hardcore shippers on how your ship works, because it will never do in their eyes.
Rarity and Applejack so far has the most stable relationship among the mane 6, which can be called “getting better and better with fluctuation”. A couple/pair of friends who NEVER fight is not a good sign, fighting and arguing will get things out of their chests way faster than a peaceful guessing game, the trick is to already make the argument productive, which is exactly what Rarijack is about, and that’s actually how rea-life couples work.
Season 1 they were still fighting about small things like mud on hooves and over sensitivity on small details, season 4 they’re fighting over the perspective of product value, in season 6 Rarity is already getting upset about Applejack not having time to go out with her. But in the end, they all had more understanding about each other and grew an even stronger bond. That’s not instability, that’s progress.
But Rainbow Dash and Applejack? There’s nothing to make progress on in the first place except their bromance :)

All these years later and I still don’t get how TwiDash became so popular when it did, feel like they hardly had a dynamic back then.

@Tchernobog

As usual you fundamentally understand most shippers and why and how people ship or why they even enjoy fantasy. Let me put it this way, no one outside of the circle of shippers that surrounds Bookplayer and reads all her blogpost CARES about “o hey if I put these 2 characters from this magical pony show in a realistic context would their relationship be stable?”. Iv done it myself sure since I disagree with your views on Rarijack but I do so with the knowledge that 90% of other shippers really don’t care about what im saying.

Things like “Do I like these two characters” “Do I like the dynamic between these characters” “Are these characters entertaining together” hell even something as simple as “do their designs compliment each other” tends to play far more into shipping than SUPER DEEP ANALYSIS.

The real reason both ships in this OT3 are so popular is really quite simple. Behind it all…. Rarity/Applejack and Rainbow/Applejack in ether order are a pretty common “top 2” for lots of people in the fando. There’s a lot more overlap in fans than say something like Fluttershy and Pinkie. Some people like both ships so their solution is “Well lets just have a 3 way relationship!”
YuwenTaiji

Rainbow Dash doesn’t have problem with this, she’s just upset Rarity gets to hold the camera(phone) :p

And Applejack is somehow… shy… Why does Applejack get to be the shy one every time tho? That’s so out of her character.
Tchernobog

I still cannot understand this trio. Then again, I still maintain that AJ and Rarity cannot work in a stable fashion, and adding Rainbow to the mix is just… not something that will increase the stability by any measure :X
