Kinda reminds me of that game “Congo’s Caper” on the SNES, where you started off as a caveman (with a monkey tail), but you get hit, you revert into a monkey. The only thing AJ was missing to make this a perfect Congo’s clone was to have a a tail already at the beginning of the video.

I’d like something like this, where some sort of planetary alignment, passing comet, solar flare, eclipse, or blue moon does what the Secretariat comet did in the comic and supercharge the Equestrian magic in the Humane 7, but the side effect is equine lycanthropy until the celestial event ends.
 
I’m also a fan of a headcanon that during the new moon, kinda like in Inuyasha with half-demons having a period every month where they’d lose their demon powers, the magic from the portal that gives those from other worlds shapes to match the indigenous life shuts down until sunrise, meaning any natural-born ponies in the human world, like Sunset, would revert to her pony form even in the human world, and any humans in Equestria, say one of the Humane 6, would become humans in Equstria, upon the rise of the new moon and remain such until sunrise the next day.
