Ponyland will not be tamed by your horse suburbia and your microwave ovens!  
Ponyland is eternal and wild, and the things in it are trying to kill you!
 
It’s a daydream spot, so of course Patch survives. It’s just as well that she does because she has a mystical destiny revealed to her that culminates in Patch and her friends going on an epic quest that restores magic to the land.
 
Of course the science ovens and long-distance transport stop working over time as a result, and civilization rapidly collapses to small idiosyncratic city-states centred around hastily-fortified castles where the rediscovered magical arts begin to be practised again. Fewer and fewer ponies recall the before times, as new challenges emerge. There are new incursions from the faerie realms. The long-dormant pegasus and unicorn genes begin to re-express themselves in the population starting with tiny remnant populations in isolated locations.
 
These later wonders can be found in the chronicles of the third age of Ponykind, which ends with the planetary and lunar orbits becoming tidally locked and the emergence of… but I’m getting ahead of myself.
