Which is exactly the point isn’t it? They know he didn’t do it consciously. They know he’d never hurt them on purpose, but they know he’ll still grow big and scary nonetheless. How would they deal with that? What challenges will they all face and overcome in order to remain with their friend, when their friend is a bulding-sized, fire-breathing battering ram? I think a situation like that would be the perfect setting for a lesson of true friendship, and that’s exactly what this is all about, isn’t it?

But all drama aside, this could be fixed easily by Celestia going:

“Ok Spike, I wanted you to learn to accept yourself as you are, and thanks to your friends, you have. However, I know that now that you’re growing up a bit you’re finding it harder to keep living with everyone like you’ve done so far, not being able to enter houses or controlling your strength. So just like you learned to teleport scrolls with your fire, here’s a 2nd neat trick for you that will, for the sake of convenience, make it easier for you to keep living with us.”

Boom.
Spike learns to transform into a pony with his fire (or has Twilight turn him), because after all we’ve seen, I’m betting my right foot its fully possible for them to do such a thing. Problem solved. I mean, D&D dragons choose to take human form and live with them all their lives. So why the heck not do this for the poor bastard who really wants to stay with his friends?

I think people are looking at it wrong. That isn’t what Spike wants, it’s what other see. More specifically What Rarity sees, given the pose.

While they are still friends, she can never see past the potential Spike has of losing control, Of harming her friends, their friends, and herself again. Its just another sad reminder that this isn’t where he belongs.

It’s sadder still that this is where he longs to be.

They’re probably just gonna ignore how he’s able to do it (or not make it a big deal, when it is) and just use him as an oversized siege weapon/batering ram though. Which is cool in its own way, but I think the point was that it’d be better if the show focused on that for his character’s progression instead. Like, will he really only grow naturally if he’s greedy? Can he grow any other way? Can the ponies help him with that? Will he change and become more rebelious as every “adult” around him starts looking smaller and weaker? Will everyone still see him the same way once he starts growing large, scary claws and fangs, accidentally knocking down houses or burning them down to ashes with a sneeze? Etc.

I agree there’s so much they can do with him, I would really like to see them use any of that instead of another “Spike lets power/respect/greed get to his head and screws up again”.

My Little Pony - 1992 Edition

Well, the Spikezilla toy from the Guardians of Harmony series suggests that in the GoH storyline, Spike can go back and forth from his normal baby dragon size to full-grown dragon size. A little like Billy Batson turning into Captain Marvel. (Or Bruce Banner turning into the Hulk, depending on how much self-control Spike has when full-grown.) So, the Hasbro folks are at least willing to entertain the notion of full-grown Spike being a character in some manner. That’s a start.

Ooh, now they should do a third dumb sequence of Spike becoming an adult before reverting to a baby, like accelerated growth from eating a magic blob or cursed gem. XD
DarkSonata

I’d love for him to learn to grow (even a little) without becoming all greedy. Play with his uniqueness goddamit! :D
There’s so much potential there, its a crime that the writers of the show insist on ignoring one of the most interesting parts of their world’s dynamic: That there’s a DRAGON being raised by these ponies.
There’s so much that can be done with that, the amazing andventures and lessons they could exploit if they only decided to give him a bit more protagonism despite not being a pony and a female. Show true equality writers!
