I grew up in the land of The Full Monty, so the local industrial museum has a fairly big one, which they show off to paying customers.
 
The later ones from roughly-G4 tech levels are machined to ludicrously high tolerances, so even today you can stand in the same room when they’re run up at demo pressures and you don’t need ear protectors. What you feel most with a big static steam engine is vibration and a pervading sense of very precisely applied immense power (70 ton flywheel and attached steel rolling mill? Reverse it in two seconds at full pelt? No biggie). Oh, and these engines have just a heavenly smell, from all the hot machine oil they use for lubricant.
 
Consider that Celestia and Luna can reverse planetary orbits at will. Even if they’re the fulcrum for teams of unicorn sorcerers and networks of revered magical artefacts, they probably radiate a sense of that same perfectly controlled power. I don’t know if they’d smell as nice though.

I actually like that burning sensation after a “dry spell”. Go fig.

You know, I dislike soda as well.

For stomach surgery, I had to go off of soft drinks for several months. Mostly just water and protein.  
After a while, I tried a soda again.  
DAAAAAAANG that stuff BURNS your throat!
 
I’ve really just stopped drinking it all-together. The fact that I was used to that kind of sensation is honestly more worrying than how much it hurt.
