Starlight got flak because of bad writing. Seeing those multiverses where the different villains succeeded was interesting, but then Starlight’s backstory just felt shoehorned because it wasn’t given enough focus to actually flesh her out.
 
For example, Sunburst got his cutie mark, and then was shipped off to a school for talented unicorns.
 
A few extra lines from her like “I tried contacting Sunburst many times, but he never responded” would have gone miles toward making her seem more sympathetic, since it would show she put in the EFFORT to try and still be friends, but she felt like Sunburst snubbed her for being more talented.
 
The way it went in the episode it was like, “He left after he got his cutie mark…………… cutie marks are evil.” There was too big of a gap that needed to be filled in regarding how, or IF, Starlight still tried to stay in contact, or if she felt she shouldn’t even bother.

Couldn’t the police just arrest Steady Hooves?

I wrote this backstory because I wanted to show that often things are much more complicated than we know, but I do agree with you. Being rejected hurts and can spiral into something bad. This world is about friendship, so loosing your friend and not making another is a recipe for disaster. I just don’t think S is psycho. She is just very angry and got very bad idea about solving her problem.

I always wondered why the fandom gave Starlight bs for turning psycho just cause she lost Sunburst. She’s a kid. stuff like this turns into emotional baggage that can really screw up a person and lead them to make bad choices in life.
 
Ever wondered why you can’t hold down a relationship for some reason? Maybe its because you subconsciously blamed yourself as a kid for your parent’s divorce or something like that. Season 6 got super real for me.

I could actually see this being the prime reason why she shut herself off after losing Sunburst. One too many losses. That’ll really harden someones heart.

It depends on how it’s handled, and what part it plays in the story.

While some people may debate that being raised in an ‘abusive’ relationship counts as an Edgy & Bad Story telling… It also give the proper fridge brilliance to fill the gaps of certain back stories
