Since in the setting magic exists and time travel is explicitly possible via magic, I don’t think that’s a tremendous obstacle.
It shouldn’t be too hard for somepony to make time no longer exist and instead make all of time simultaneous. :D
Maybe there was a thousand-year war between Daybreaker and Nightmare Moon which turned all of Equestria into ashes.
