“WW1:
Pros: The front didn’t move a lot.
Cons: You probably died on that front, like everyone else in your unit/regiment/army.”

Only on the Western Front. The Eastern Front, the Italian Front, the Balkans Campaign, the Middle Eastern theatre, the African theatre, the Asian and Pacific theatre, and the Naval warfare typically had much more mobility of troops and fluidity of borders. Unfortunately, they are rarely depicted in fiction.

“before going back to guard duty”

Sentries never stay on guard for more than 2 hours. The reason for this is that they get either bored or fatigued, and this causes them to be sloppy.

So basically ARMA/Operation Flashpoint? Because that’s basically what happens in any given situation if someone decides to be a jackass and get in front of someone’s line of fire without warning them first or do something that their officer didn’t order them to do in the first place.

It also had armored warfare and air power properly developed.

And there was the Eastern Front which combined WW1 and WW2 with both huge battles and constant skirmishes of attrition.

WW1:
Pros: The front didn’t move a lot.
Cons: You probably died on that front, like everyone else in your unit/regiment/army.

WW2:
Pros: There was a lot of movement, and gas attacks were not used as much.
Cons: Your country either lost the war before you knew it, or it had more impact on civilans. Also the Axis was pretty good at it.

Man, WW1 fucking sucked balls if you were infantry. No wonder why everyone prefers WW2 to play in videogames.
