if it’s someone like Mark Hamill who’s known for both his acting and his voice acting, then yeah, he might get a place on the poster - but AFAIK Tara hasn’t done a lot of big live-action roles that the average person would know her from
 
you don’t see Iris Quinn - someone who, again AFAIK, is known by a lot of people in Canada for her stage/musical work - getting a big shining spot on the Friendship Games poster

Not if it’s a standard I apply to every movie ever, even when I personally dislike said actor. The lead character is the person we’re going to be spending the majority of time with, and thus the actor we’d spend the majority of time with, something I thing consumers should be informed of.

I thought I’m the only one who thinks like this. I have some interest in the VAs themselves and I’m happy they do what they’re doing and I even watch a funny video by Michelle Creber, if it is pony-related, but other than that, I care more about the characters than the VAs who lend their voices to them for the show.

Agreed. Any voice actor worth their salt would want audiences to see and hear their character(s), not the name/person behind them. It would ruin the magic otherwise.

They probably think the poster would look less impressive to the masses if it has big names on the top followed by (to them) no-names right under it, which it might.  
I’m more happy with this decision, because if that movie blows everything away, the dollar signs in Hasbro’s eyes will make it gladly sign a contract that fixates seasons 10 - 14 as definitely going to happen.  
It’s not hard to see that the purpose of this movie from Hasbro’s side is definitely to get the franchise even more attention, with the plan in mind to prolong the duration of the show by more seasons if the movie draws in enough new fans.  
So any risk of mainstream audiences not being impressed must be eliminated and from what I’ve seen so far, Hasbro does a great job with this. The trailer is not even out for a week now and two of the four uploads of it that I know of have almost 700,000 views (Hasbro’s upload) and more than 500,000 views (Zero Media).  
That’s a very good start for the attention the trailer will get and with Hasbro ramping up the advertising in the months to come and spamming this trailer everywhere, these numbers will only rise.  
If the shows lives longer, the names of the actors we know not being mentioned on top of the movie poster is a small price to pay.
 
Besides, once those new fans the movie will bring on board start watching the show, they will know and recognize their names in no time anyway. There is no way their names will go over their heads.

I’m literally only talking about the lead role. As in, only Tara in this case, with the rest of top billing being the celebs obviously. Tara might not put butts in seats, but I doubt she’d scare anyone away when they see Sia in the top billing. As long as it’s ONLY Tara.

I still wish there could be some kind of compromise, like putting the main cast VAs alongside the celebrity VAs at the top of the poster like what the Ratchet and Clank movie producers eventually did with their poster. Then again, the Ratchet and Clank movie producers only had to add two names, whereas this would have to add 5 names.
