Thing is, in today’s pop culture, no one ever seems to consider lawful evil “Evil” enough, they always get upstaged by your omnicidal chaotic evil villains.

He looks lawful evil. That would mean he’s allowed to be charming or even funny and still be a bad guy. If you read the comic he’s pretty jokey in it. Dude’s a classic narcissistic sociopath.

The big issue that I have with believing the theory, even though I WANT to believe it, is that we have no VA info about Strife or any such other character.
 
Given how much they’ve been trying to use big name VA’s to advertise the movie, I’d figure that if strife was in the movie his VA would be heavily advertised. Though I am hoping that hasbro and lion’sgate are just keeping it a secret.

 
It’s mostly this from the trailer that makes me think they will not end up being the big bads of the film. Twilight and Tempest Shadow are looking way too worried at something and then SK just hugs them. It seems really weird for main villains to do that even if Storm King is kind of comedic.
 
This just strikes me the real villain is doing something off screen and SK and TS have just recently done a face turn.

It’s possible the others don’t realize he’s dead yet though. They could have been in the other room or outside and heard an explosion and came in glad to see Twilight alive.
 
It could be a lot of things right now honestly we could be completely wrong about the whole scene and it takes place in the middle of the movie for all we know. I mean it’s extremely unlikely but possible.

But I wouldn’t think the mane six would be hugging and congratulating twilight in the prior scene if storm king had just did a kamikazi, they’d be mourning him.  
 
(scene I’m talking about from the movie, where they’re moving in to hug a weary twilight– given the look of the two scenes, it would appear to be that scene leading up this one of them being defensive)
 
I could see them defeating storm king and then Strife shows up and restarts the plan himself to take over things.

I have considered that maybe the Storm King (and Tempest Shadow) are actually not the main villains of the story. So this could be actually the Storm King did a face turn and made a sacrifice and the real villain didn’t actually die from it like they thought.

yeah, they also have that shot of the entire group celebrating which looks like its 5 minutes before the movie ends. (especially since it spoils a crapton about Princess skystar, or something she does)

that being said, I AM wondering if we’re not being intentionally mislead about something; The prequel comics has a character called strife who Betrays Storm king and does some pretty blatant Foreshadowing of being an enigmatic minion/bigger bad kind of thing, and He hasn’t appeared in ANY shots for the movie.
 
 
I’m wondering if the “true” big bad isn’t storm king but Strife, or if strife was made up by the IDW team specifically for the comic?  
I kind of have a hard time thinking of the IDW staff doing such a thing all on their own.||

Considering she is holding his staff, which you can also see in the shot of her getting surrounded and hugged by the rest of the mane 6; I would say yes this is right after she defeats Storm King and he (or someone) comes back for the usual short second round.
 
Also, I have to add this: Even as someone who doesn’t care at all if something is spoilered for me they could at least attempt to not spoil the whole ending in the Trailer.

My bet: this is after Twilight defeated Storm king; Storm kings minions (Like grubber) come up, the other 5 assume they’re there to cause trouble still and instantly leap in to defend twilight, only for the minions of storm king to apologize and state they no longer wish to fight because friendship (or being betrayed by storm king)

AJ and Rainbow are ready to kick some butt.
