The animation is a bit jarring, but I’m reminded of my experience with The Simpsons Movie.

We just got a good episode with them in, which is more than I’d ever dared hope.
 
I’m not asking for much from this movie, just that they’re in it, and their contribution doesn’t just consist of explaining the plot and getting beaten up again.

Where the hell have you been for the past… five seasons? If Luna and Celestia are taken out of the plot with dignity it will be more consideration than the show has EVER given them.

I’m sure there will be some negative comments now but I don’t have a hype about the trailer
 
A party in Canterlot and someone attacks and might take over Canterlot/Equestria. Where are Celestia and Luna? I’m 100% sure there had been strong villains in these 1000 years and Celestia kicked a lot of butts but now she is doing nothing or gets easily beaten?  
The movie better explains why Celestia and Luna are away
