I believe Terry Pratchett said when asked why he makes wizards so similar to scientists (and I’m paraphrasing):
 
“Well, there is little similarity between a group that spends a lot of its time with research, speaks its own secret language, wears funny robes, and a group that spends a lot of its time with research, speaks its own secret language, wears funny robes…Er…”
 
There is really not much difference between the scientific and arcane method really, what diffes is the world (or worldview). If the real world had magic, then scientists WOULD be wizards. But it’s difficult to say where the border between the two is in a world where magic is built in in the first place.  
I wouldn’t even describe magic and science as separate entities. It’s closer to say that magic and occultism is a discredited PARADIGM of science.  
(Paradigm in this case would be akin to a world view, approach, methodology that dominates a field.)

Any sufficiently analyzed magic(WARNING: TvTropes may suck hours of your time, proceed at your own risk.) is indistinguishable from SCIENCE!(I love Girl Genius, without a doubt my favourite web comic ever.)

That does seems odd, but think about it this way, if we were able to do the things they can in real life, would it not be a science?
 
Magic in their world is studied, learned, and it has its limits.
