Half of the ships of characters just standing next to each other were from 2010 when there weren’t many pivotal characters outside of the mane cast and random nameless background characters with no lines. The other half are usually made as jokes; though, a quarter of that half are played seriously nevertheless, which I’d imagine occur more so during mid-season or post-season breaks, meaning in order to stave off boredom, lel.
 
Recent times, I’ve found people want ships to be believable based on in-show interactions, which to me seem unreasonably limiting depending on the ships and fans of the ships involved, and so, oftentimes I reply with “Who gives a shit? Ship whomever the fuck you wish.”
