It’s called denial. I mean, would you believe that six random people who ruined your life were so important to the word that it would end if they never met? Especially when the leader of said group has been going out of her way to stop you? As far as Starlight was concerned, that was all some sort of trick.
 
That’s actually what I really liked about that. It took some time for Twilight to get to Starlight as well as mentally knocking her down a few pegs by showing her what would happen thus letting her reveal the pain she went through as a child, breaking her down even more. I dunno, I just feel there’s more to it than “She tried to destroy Equestria because she’s evil.”
