His backstory is really, like, understandable and similar to many people. Betrayed by his only friend. He’s only trying to make a new friend, and help them along the way :D
No, he’s not a jerk. He’s cunning, but as stated on mlp.wikia.com, He’s a “Con artist cat turned hero”. Quote: “Thought he may look cunning, Capper’s crimes aren’t driven by malice”
He is. Though, his character obviously changes towards the end of the second half, and if I have to actually point out what will happen to his character in the second half, I will kill myself. XD
It wasn’t my reaction, it was a prevalent reaction in comment sections and analysis videos.

Dogs and Minotaurs were bipedal anthropomorphs as well, but I’d imagine the outcry and confusion stemed from Capper’s more traditional furry appearance compared to Dogs’ larger upper frames and short, more animal-like legs. Online surfers are fickle, perhaps? XD

That said, I still found the complaints really stupid. First of all, anthro cats have appeared in the MLP franchise before (Catrina from G1).
Secondly, when will people stop screaming “FURRIES!” every time they see an anthropomorphic animal in a cartoon? Anthropomorphism has been a thing long before furries were. (Ever heard of Bugs Bunny?)
