Dangerous Amoeba
Duck - The world's first and only single-celled duck.

@Background Pony #ADCE
The space race was because of the cold war, US went to the moon becuase the commies were doing it. Alot of human advancement was because of war. think about europe, how was europe always ahead of the world? Well for 1 it is fertile and its easier to grow crops there, this encouraged growth. Secondly was becuase everyone was conquering each other so you make better weapons to fight back. The weapons caused spin offs which were used for good. Isolated and “peaceful” nations did not advance tech as fast as the warrior nations, isolated aztecs, mayans, the american indians central africa and such, Never needed to advance tech so they didn’t. (I’m sleepy i hope what i said made sense.)

@Dr. Robotnik
I think it’s more a question of resources and obstacles than mentality. The Mane Six aren’t just “a few elites”; they’re the sole wielders of the nation’s most powerful superweapon, more or less the only thing that can bring down the supervillains they have to fight on a regular basis.

Equestria has never faced an invading army in the show, so they don’t fight their enemies with armies. The threats Equestria faces tend to be nigh-omnipotent superbeings that could easily take out an army.

Ponies fight differently because they face different threats. No more, no less.

@Sonlirain
Obviously it’s easy to cherry-pick inventions that are in some way connected to warfare, especially if you’re willing to allow some degrees of separation. But plenty of inventions have been because of curiosity and discovery, which I think are traits that are very human. The LHC, the space race, plate tectonics, electricity, the cotton gin, the steam engine, and so on. The vast majority of human inventions are just made to make life easier, not to extinguish it.

Warfare is a place where the government pours a lot of money, so a lot of discoveries are made through that, but they’re not always related to killing people. The same is true of the space race.

“Hatred Is Strength” is more accurate.

Hatred is an equally strong force in human power as love is. Hatred is what drives people to fight evil, while also causing it. Hatred is what makes people kill their brethren from across the seas to protect the ones at home. Hatred is what keeps people alive when they’ve given up on love or never had it to begin with. And as others said, hatred has been a powerful motivator in the entirety of human history, just like love.

Now, if I might stray a bit into weirdness, I’d say that, in a hypothetical war between ponies and humans, humans would have hatred as an advantage. Hell, we’re biologically built to hate in order to survive, being omnivores and thus partial predators. Meanwhile, they’re herbivores, creatures whose natural instinct typically is to run like it’s the Olympics if they so much as think something as nasty as us is coming their way. On top of that, we have much more experience with war.

With them, it goes like this: “Invading army of monsters? Send a few elites to deal with it since we’re too afraid. We’re doomed unless they (find/return/use/restore/etc.) the MacGuffin.” Us? Goes more like this: “Enemies? Send in entire armies, all the weapons and machines we’ve got, and throw in a few elite soldiers for flavor. Time to kick ass.”

Big difference in mentality.

All inventions are created from the existence of a problem, and the problem of “HOW DO I KILL THAT PERSON OVER THERE?” has been a long standing one.

@Zombie_Trotsky It’s not really all that misantropic.

Most important discoveries were made because of hatred and envy.

The freaking microwave was discovered because people invented radars. Radars were discovered because people invented aircraft and aircraft development and production got a huge kickstart during and after WW1… because the army wanted aircraft for their needs.

Most of the tech we use today is the effect of hatred and envy… so yeah.

Is that misantrophy? Nope it’s the truth.
Is it bad?
Depends on how you envision the world.
