good job Jim for making sure spike gets some more respect as good as a character he is
Apparently, and quite surprisingly to me personally, the show staff only gave bigger roles to Spike because of consistent fan criticism. Like, to the point where Jim (who oddly got most of the writing complaints despite being an animation director) went to the writing staff and said something to the effect of “We really do have to work on Spike more.”
Also cynically, Thorax could be very much a character that gravitates towards a certain other much-written-about character. But at least there’s Ember.
The show specifically introduced more characters for Spike to interact with, to give him more story potential. The show does care, or at least, the writers finally have an idea of what they want to do with him.
I thought that the return of some minor characters was far-fetched, but they came back.
it’s actually quite far fetched cause the show doesn’t really care about Spike in general, at best you can hope for a comic about it but not an episode

We even got to see Rainbow Dash’s parents at one point when I thought we would never see them so the idea of having a Spike episode when his parents isn’t too farfetched
Not necessarily - I’m sure plenty of people thought we’d never see Applejack’s parents appear in the show either.
