The show provided them with characters and setting, for all we know Ted made up Chummer to explain how Capper became jaded and stopped beleive in frinedship. Since he doesn’t mention him in the book its pretty obvious that he doesn’t exist in MLP universe.

Why wouldn’t he be? Ted Anderson’s Tempest backstory is explicitly canon.

Spike is amorphous character that’s never been given solid character base, even in s01. Every writer writes him how they want. Characteristics come and go, catchphrases appear and disappear, maturity and education varies from 0 to 99 year-old, etc.
Hopefully in S8 they might hookup Spike with a new girl pony who pops up or Sweetiebelle. Ember he never really showed any interest in her.
But Sparity and rarijack fans might be disappointed.
Well by the “meta” reasoning, it is still something written by Meghan McCarthy. Like the only one in the show staff who treat Spike as Twilight’s pet or assistant rather than actual family. She twice denied possibility of Saprity happening and pointed out that he is a child and she’s grown up. It would be very believable for her to give Rarity a proper love interest.

It could have been reasonable if his entire adventure with Chummer wasn’t just something made up by IDW writers.
True, that ep is drown out by almost everything else though, where he gets majorly triggered when someone even flatters her. It’s a bit weird.
I don’t know. I remember his dialogue in “Simple Ways”, where he just seemed so… resigned to the fact that Rarity was never going to return his affections and would just continue to obsess over shallow assholes.

Nah, Spike really doesn’t have that level of restraint or maturity around Rarity. He would get f-ing crazy if someone stole his waifu.
