I had briefly considered buying a Dash plush a few years ago that had gone over $500 on Ebay. Here’s the thing: Most of what you’re paying for is labor. Hand-stitching and stuffing these things I’m sure is not easy, and takes awhile. Even at $10 per hour, below minimum wage, if they spend 20 hours on it, that’s $200 right there.
Also, you’re paying for what is a piece of 3D art. When buying art, you’re paying for something unique that is one-of-a-kind (unless you’re buying prints). Even semi-mass-produced handmade plushes will never be exactly the same from one to another. And people will pay a lot for art.

Also the box says KLPlushies

They are really hard to make and it takes too much time to make them all and they are really detail, that’s why they $150
Actually, they’re reasonably priced when you take into account what you’re getting.
>Better material
>Hand-made instead of machine
>Focus instead of blueprint
Factory is NEVER going to be as good as handmade, and the price is worth it, in my opinion, for the top-tier plushie makers. Many people don’t understand that the material for the coat alone is going to be about $20, and they have to get extra in case of an error. Next you have mane and tail material, and that costs money too. Next is stuffing, and you shouldn’t go with something synthetic, you should have genuine wool. Now you’re spending about $100 or so on plushie material, and spending DAYS working on them.
Do you know the price of a chicken sandwich made by yourself? Raising the chicken, growing the wheat and other ingredients, and getting the salt from salt water to actually make 1 chicken sandwich? About $1,500.
Economy of Scale
Often, if an artist makes multiple of the same plushie, it’s worth it to drop the price to meet demand and ultimately earn more revenue. However, most artists only have the time to make 1 of each of a ton of characters.
I’ve only visited one pony con - the Galacon2014. And I’ve seen the prices on the hand-made plushies. I quickly said “fuck it” and bought two simple “factory made” ones for 15€ each.
I understand supporting the artists and all that crap, but they’re really not worth that much.
You’d be surprised the price of those plushies.
That might be the price of the whole box.
