Do they drink spoooky tea?
Edited
It’s Everfree. More like Fire foxes, Acid raccoons or Ice mustelids.
They’re “spooky eyes”! Rarity says so right there!
Jack-Wabbit and the Beanstalk
Out of curiosity, where’s that from?
Reminded me of when Bugs Bunny was on a giant’s head with his hat on.
“Alright, fellas! Break it up, break it up!”
That was a whimper?! I really thought Pinkie just farted!
Given that they seem to be able to fit in a group in a hollow in the roots of a tree, I was assuming they weren’t anything very big. Maybe something like foxes or some other dog-like animals? Maybe raccoons or mustelids, if they can whimper like dogs.
It occurs to me now that they could be timberwolf pups (if they do have pups? How do animated masses of wooden debris reproduce, anyway?), but I’m fairly certain timberwolf eyes glow green, not yellow.
@Background Pony #1329
The only thing we know is that when a stick flew it hit one, it made a dog whimper sound, so possibly a couple timber wolves.
There’s also the narrative angle to consider: given that Zecora is established to live in the Everfree, the plot does have to visit it at some point in order for Pinkie and Rarity to reach Zecora’s home. However, since this episode is supposed to be about Rarity’s mane-related misadventures and teaching a lesson about self-confidence, a chase or confrontation with a monster would just eat up time without contributing anything to the plot and would likely just feel out of place. I thought that having Rarity voice worry about crossing the woods was a pretty reasonable nod to the forest’s dangerous status, considering.
The above scene is just a gag that subverts expectations and makes fun of the “evil glowing eyes” cliche. Chill out, jeez.
Yeah but it’s downplayed by the above scene.
I don’t know, I appreciated that they at least made mention of traveling through it being dangerous and unpleasant rather than calmly strolling through it like in past episodes.
What kind of animals were those?
How far the fearsome have fallen…
