yep. and that’s the whole point of fighting.
well, it changes somewhat sometimes, but those exceptions are exceptions to the rule, you won’t be able to convince many people to fight more often than not, for any reasons other than survival.
Yeah, I guess there’s a bit of truth in that. It also depends on how effective the winners can enforce their “truth”. Usually the winners are better at it but there’s always going to be an alternative to it somewhere and only dying would completely take away your ability to tell a different story.

True, but also look at things like the (last) Spanish civil war; the rebels won, but history is written against them, because “their enemies” survived the war.
Though really, surviving is the same as winning, in the long run…
Of course you “get to” write history. Ponies in different regions will believe different things. Remember how Daring Do was thought of as a destructive thief in southern Equestria? Caballeron almsot succeeded in rewriting history down there.
For that matter, go down the southern states in the US and ask around what the humans there think happened during the civil war. You’ll get some interesting answers.
That’s not right. If you lost and survived you don’t get to write history and if you died you didn’t win. That saying refers to things like the winning nations of the world wars blaming the eskalation and damages entirely on Germany even tho they wanted to go to war themselves and were pretty confident they would win with ease and in fact believed that war was a necessity for politics to work. When they realized that war was a bad thing it was suddenly just Germany who wanted to do it. The nazis are to today seen as the ultimate evil while other bad things pale in comparison. In general the winners of a fight paint the losers in a very bad light and themselves in a very good one.

That saying gets things wrong. The winners don’t write history, the survivors do.
