I admit I was squarely in the camp that thought this was Clover, given the resemblance to Twilight, but we now know it’s not.
 
(I had forgotten that Journal of the Two Sisters identifies Clover as a mare.)

It actually was brought up twice in the comics.
 
It was first mentioned in Twilight’s chapter book though. Which also said that she used to be a pegasus before she ascended.

I have no gripe with the Apples, but it would be nice to get to see a bit more of other families, now that I think about it.

You know, it would be nice that the show would explores the main protagonist’s family more.  
The Sparkles are absolutely NOT, and I repeat NOT just simply a run off the mill unicorn family when they have two kids who hold high positions in Equestria society, live in upper Canterlot, and are exceptional at magic.
 
There has to be a bloodline things going on being some sort of “Child of Destiny” and numerous implications of their possible connection to the greatest mage in Pony history.
 
Take a break from the Apples. They’re overdeveloped already.

Shadowlock turns out to be related to Twilight?

What if he is Shadow Lock’s ancestor?  
That guy had to be a pony before he somehow became that evil creature. If otherwise, how could he have direct descendants as normal ponies?  
The idea of him being Clover the Clever is very good though. He might be the one that united the Legends. And what if the Sirens are related to windigoes.  
That LoM #9 cover has a lot of interesting things…

This presents some VERY interesting interaction possibilities between Star Swirl and Twilight in the finale. What if, when they first meet, Star Swirl mistakes Twilight for Clover?

Looks like a genderbent Twilight though.  
Even has the same eye colours and similar hairstyle.
 
A scrawny Twilight with Shining Armor’s mane colour.  
And I think it’s obvious the Sparkle bloodline has been carried by Twilight’s mom’s side of the family, while her husband was simply just married in. Neither of their children have any resembling features to those of Night Light.

Are we sure that these that the Meadowbrook mentioned in Season 5 was the same one as the one seen in “A Health of Information”? Ponies names are more unique than human ones but it’s still possible.

Maybe since now because meadowbrook was supposed to be a unicorn. The legends always change and starswirl have the real version of the story
