Description

Uganda expressing her gratitude to Oshun.

Last week I was looking for more African themed music to add to my favorites so I could use it in the background of my streams to make it more lively. For as some of you know, I try to add more to keep it spontaneous, as well as for it to not be completely silent if no one is speaking.

I came across one particular video called “Oshun Meditation Music (Warning extremely Powerful)”, and I gave it a listen.
It was pretty relaxing I should say, until at the time code of 4:36. Then came one of the catchiest songs I’ve ever heard!
I then began to wonder, who is this “Oshun”? While listing, I scrolled down to the description to see if there was anything about her, and sure enough there was!

From the description I learned a bit about the African mythology of Oshun.
Basically she is the vibrant goddess of love. A very sweet, kind, charismatic, and generous spirit that also has great taste in everything.
Representing the things that make life worth living, she also appreciates the finer things in life. (Especially gold)
She wants everyone to be happy and loves to laugh. They say you can always tell when she’s around because everyone would get real silly and giggly, while also seemingly becoming a little more sexier at the same time.
She is also really graceful and loves to dance.

I then thought to myself, “Wow, I really like this spirit… She seems really fun…. and rather relatable…..”
I looked up on Google various images of Oshun, and I can simply say that all of them were very very beautiful. Many art’s of the goddess adorned with golden-yellow fabric and everything in between, with lots and lots of jewelry. It seemed to vary with the amount of adornments, but it was all in really good taste.

Then the idea hit me. While listening to this song that was paying respects to Oshun, I got the image of one of my Antelopes in anthro form dressed in a similar fashion, dancing her heart out to the beat. It seemed like a very beautiful idea, but it was a Friday and I was about to start the next stream. So I put that video in my favorites until after the weekend which I would then get to it.

Then I got to it, deciding that it should be Uganda. Since personality-wise, she is very fun and out-going, as well as very lovely dovey at times and seems to joke around a lot with Sabe. She fit perfectly for this role!
I learned as well that Oshun is from West-African culture. Which makes it even more perfect since Giant Sable Antelopes (The species that Uganda is) are naturally found in Angola, which is in West-Africa.
Now it’s even more perfect and fitting than I could imagine!

So yesterday I sketched out the lines, and today, finally adding color and shading.
I must say, this makes all of my other Anthro arts prior seem really tasteless, for this came out so beautifully that I’m tempted to actually get a frame for it and hang it on my wall somewhere.
Finally an Anthro art that I don’t have to hide!

You know, oddly enough, my spirit itself seems to be rather uplifted after I learned about Oshun and then worked on this. …Maybe shes influenced me to some extent….. Shes certainly inspired me to do this.

I guess this is me paying my respects and thanks to her. Thank you for inspiring me with your beauty, Oshun!

Oh, and if you want to see the video where I learned about her, it’s right here in this link.—>www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0sfFI…
Again, the really catchy song that inspired me is at 4:36.

I guess you’re right about that, yeah. I have seen many other non-pony characters from time to time on here.

I saw acctually, yeah! That was a pretty cool surprise to see an actual Giraffe appear in the show finally. I thought she was going to speak at some point, since she had the sapient pony-like eyes. But I guess the writers were playing on the fact that Giraffes are mostly mute. Which is just fine, she was still adorable either way.

That’s cool. Sense there are alot of non-pony-yet-still-somewhat-related MLP fan character images here, I see no reason for it not to be here.

They had a giraffe on the show recently, so an antelope fits too.

I’m glad you like it!

I only really had those thoughts of not putting it up here, since at first I didn’t think it was Pony-related enough to be considered to be shown here.
Now that you said that, it actually is kind of flattering to have someone bring it here despite what I thought before. I’m glad no one is really shunning it away and actually enjoys it.

Neither are alot of things people draw. Like anthro’s in general.

@BarryFromMars
Yeah, it’d be nice if the show explored more species, and cultures.

@TheFriendlyElephant
The dress is lovely. :)

But yeah, it looks like an unknown anonymous person uploaded this. If you want you can go to the admins, and make it so only you can upload your own art here, if it bothers you. Still, it is a li’l flattering that people like your art enough to upload it here, as this is kinda an image archive site. It also kinda helps give your art more exposure, but it’s your art, so it’s up to you how it’s uploaded.

I wasn’t intending on posting this here, but I guess it’s alright.
I’m seriously wondering now, who is uploading some of my arts that I don’t put here?
I also had to fix a lot of tags, there were some misspellings.
Also I don’t know who gave this the tag, “Harem Dress”… This is not a Harem dress, if you actually read the description, the clothing has to do with a piece of West-African culture that I discovered and learned about a few weeks ago, and was fascinated by. Hence why I drew this in the first place.

Yes. The artist’s deeply interested in Africa and he likes MLP too, so he combined them. Having this art here doesn’t sound off-base to me since we have Zecora and there are deer in the MLP comics. Speaking of Zecora, it could be a nice episode if they go to Zecora’s homeland.

Here’s some art of Uganda in her normal Antelope form:
