I honestly miss Bleach
Not bashing Kubo. I’m just saying that it’s a shame for him. He had talent and skill and it was very clear. Why else would people enjoy Bleach on the first place? Bleach was GOOD.
The drop of quality was dude to his bad relation with his editor. Also you can’t really go Toriyama with a setting like Death Gods and such and how he built is world.
I’m not even trying to compare him to anyone i’m talking about his work and his work alone, not everyone is the same and not everyone has the same strengths and weaknesses.
I don’t think Kubo is suited to work like Toriyama did with his Dragon Ball franchise. Toriyama never had a plan–not a very long term ones anyway. Thanks to DB’s wacky setting and tone, he gets to pull that stuff easily enough. Why the blonde SSJ hair color? He felt bad for his assistant who worked hard inking Goku’s black hair (lol). Android 17 and 18? They were the results of the editor not being happy with Android 19 and 20.
The result is, as expected, dodgy writing with ridiculous inconsistencies. But the overall art only changed in style, not a notice-able drop in quality like what we see in Bleach.
The thing is that he probably couldn’t take a good amount of weeks of hiatus. One of the reason is the poor relation he had with his editor and also because the manga did have a decline in popularity. He worked for Shonen Jump after all.
@Salamenace
Seriously, fixing something that’s not even really that important since its a difference of 2 to 3 chapter instead of actually saying something
FTFY.
@Background Pony #5C63
Before he started the last arc, he was given a 5 week hiatus. Same thing with Oda who took a 4 week hiatus before the Timeskip began.
i mean he loses the powers he got from rukia, then gets his own
then he loses those and gets fullbring
he has fullbring for like 2 hours, and they get stolen
then 2 hours later he gets new ones again….
Plus ichigo being a shinigami, quincy, hollow, fullbring, etc was not the editor’s idea…
im surprised he didnt just up and give him orihime’s powers for good measure…
IMO that bugger shoulda taken a looooong hiatus before coming up with new stuff after finishing a major arc–else the burnout sets in, then he gets too lazy to draw facial expressions or even backgrounds.
200 chapter to wrap up? He was struck with a sudden “You have 3 chapter to finish because we stop publishing you” there is many cut story line he wanted to put in the story from after Soul Society arc.
He also had a burn out from the series and it is noticeable.
I still feel Kubo isn’t entirely blameless for what happened to series in its final arc. He had over 200 chapters to wrap it up which is pretty generous.
Edit: But then again, being a WSJ Author isn’t easy especially with all the deadlines and lack of sleep.
Edited
True but I blame the editors not Kubo. He’s a guy with great imagination and that draws awesome shit, he had his work heavily changed by editors
I like Bleach in the good old days. Recent Bleach seem to drop in overall quality compared to the earlier Bleach.
