It’s mostly a personal preference. A wider panty strap makes it more comfortable to wear. A thin panty strap is something you often find on thongs, and not regular/casual panties depicted here.
 
You are right about the backside not aligning with the strap. The height of the top of the strap is probably okay, but making it wider so it’s further down would make it better connect with the back of the panties.

Why? I mean if I really wanted to nit pick I could say where the placement of the panty strap and back portion of her underwear doesn’t really coincide with one another. The way the back part comes up over her butt then disappears over her backside doesn’t line up with the strap and looks like they don’t even connect. Too high up. Now I sit here just wondering what the back looks like. It doesn’t even look right with the front. But you know what it does? Makes it look like a panty strap on her side which was better than nothing at all.
 
I mean at this point I feel it would require a lot of time and effort to redo everything which I doubt the person that made this piece really wants to do. And it would be totally ignorant asking them as well. It looks nice. I am just a nit picker. Sorry artist I really do like this picture. It’s just me picky nature when it comes to clothing looking right.

I doubt panties that tightly hugging her body and mare bits would stay on without a waist band around her hips. A simple edit could solve all the problems. Just add a waist band around her hips.

Panties are built into her stockings, and the backside has a hole for her tail to slip through to hold the garment up on her tail dock. Boom; problem solved.
