As mentioned in my previous upload, this one was attempted in Inkscape. I first used 0.48.1, which was a counterproductive nightmare of constant crashing–at least twenty times while doing just the base shapes. I found the newest production version, 0.48.2-1, and had a much more stable experience. I am now somewhat torn because I like Inkscape’s pen tool features but had trouble seeing the shape outline when working with the reference in front. The nodes took a while to master, but I somewhat prefer Inkscape’s options for converting them over Illustrator’s Convert Anchor tool. Inkscape also has the same issues I have had with Illustrator for efficient color sampling but wins out slightly. The keyboard shortcuts are the biggest downfall. Shift-F6 for the pen is not acceptable. Adobe programs are famous for their keyboard shortcuts, and I see no shame in using that aspect in an open-source program. My next vector will probably be Illustrator, but I’m definitely keeping Inkscape around for future use.
