Yes, we are getting a season 8. We’re also getting a season 9. But these leaked concept designs have nothing to do with those. They’re for a completely new show that will likely come in 2020 that is a complete reboot.

Why should this new show have ties to the G4 finale? The G5 cast are not meant to be the same exact Mane 6 as the G4 one.

They’re thinking about changing Twilight to an Earth Pony, Fluttershy to a Unicorn, and Pinkie to a Pegasus. The others will remain the same.
 
They’re also planning on having a detailed story on why Twilight is an Earth Pony.
 
Of course, this is all in the very early stages, so many things can and most likely will change between now and then.

I heard there was going to be a Season 8 of MLP: FIM. Twilgiht and her friends are a part of G4. But it seems that the Mane 6 and lots of other ponies are going through a makeover change.

The only reason the G1/G2 names weren’t reused (with the exception of Applejack and Spike) was because Hasbro lost the trademarks on those names after years of not using them.

What you mean, if she is not an earth pony in G5? Add the “Race Swap” tag to these images but not to the ones that match the show.

Eugh, Earth Pony Twilight just seems wrong. All of the other possible race changes for the mane six in G5 I can handle, but this one is a bridge too far.
