wonders just how much more leadup there has to be before beautiful, scars-be-damned Rarity-Spike sexy time

For a mare who strives for beauty and perfection in everything she does, it is small wonder that a large scar would dent her sense of self and beauty. However a scar like that means one managed to survive, a dangerous event, she’s lucky, better to be scarred than dead!

I know I wouldn’t be put off by her scar but think about the men she might have known. If they are canterlot types they would not be kind and probably even say worse to her.

That’s the thing though, this is just a story not written by her, whereas unlike Kanashiipanda has her own kanashiipandaverse of art style and mini comics, Pia has her own thing going too, even outside of the story, so to claim that the “Rogue Diamond” tag as her own ‘universe’ is invalid.

In all honesty, while I get what you’re saying (in terms of how far off from canon this may or may not be) I think the “Rouge Diamond” tag honestly serves the best purpose for it. The way Pia does Rarity in fanarts vs here is different enough from each other I think that’s probably all that’s really needed

You know, pia’s rarity I think has become so distinct among the fanbase that maybe it’s time to give her her own tag. I’m thinking something like pia-rity or rari-pia.

This is just me speculating, but what if Rarity is using the “these scars don’t make me beautiful” as a cover up for something else? What if she’s suffering from psychological trauma from receiving the wounds?

Your thinking too linear about fetishes. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a direct scar fetish for a scar to increase attractiveness. Hardcore/Badass bodily attributes can be a very common fetish. While it’s more common with the reversal, attractive male men with war scars tropes and such, it’s become increasingly more common among females as well. Female barbarians, battle-scarred amazons, etc.

But Rarity is old fashion in many ways, so it’s natural she wouldn’t understand this and try to own it without a lot of convincing.

Can’t tell if that’s a knife wound or a burn mark. Still hope that spike kisses it better.

Welp a critique is a critique anyway. You make some good points as well. Although when it comes to most comics I read, I kinda pay more mind into story, the art of the comic is a secondary concern. I quite agree with the fact that, as you put it, and I’m kinda paraphrasing here, “Rarity is beautiful through her scars and the story only wants Spike to see that beauty”, it kinda just makes it hard to believe that there was enough men to see Rarity’s scars as unattractive and walk away.

Nevertheless, everything else is pretty fine to me.

When I said “ogling Pia’s Rarity” you can take it as a compliment; the art is fine, and your Rarity is attractively illustrated. The problem is in the writing and the premise underlying this scene. It is stated, and we are supposed to believe, that most men (or even just most men who Rarity has become intimate with) were disgusted by her scars, and that this has had an effect on her self-esteem. Only until Spike (we are to believe) has a man been willing to overlook the scar. Yet it completely ignores that Rarity is, clearly (just look at the comments here) an attractive woman and that most people, and most men, in fact DO NOT become put off by the scar when looking at her in her underwear (this is probably true of most scars you’d draw, so it isn’t like just making it bigger would change this).

The scar should have either been something more “public,” like a scar on her face that is not easily hidden, or less should have been made of how unattractive it is. This circumvents the issue somewhat, but also makes a “reveal” scene impossible. The fundamental problem is that the premise wants to have its cake and eat it too: it wants a beautiful Rarity, but it also wants only Spike to recognize that beauty. These two are, unfortunately, mutually incompatible. It simply strains disbelieve that THAT many men, upon seeing an undressed Rarity as you draw her, will turn up their nose at this scar and say, “Ew. Gross. I’m outta here.”

But, I suppose, what point is there really in complaining… except to provide honest critique, rather than trite affirmation? If you dislike the former and prefer the latter, that’s okay. Many do. And this isn’t meant to be some sort of masterpiece; many people are here just to look at your attractive artwork, first and foremost. It is just a shame, in my own view, to see such fine art coupled with a rather stale execution of premise.

That’s all I’ll say about that, or this. Not like a booru is the place for some long analysis anyway.
