Before the mouth was probably a few pixels below the nostrils and they weren’t there.

Not just mouth, the muzzle-line itself is too long and bends too abruptly.
your current filter.Proportions right, it’s just the mouth was placed too high. also, no nose detailing. so that also makes it look weird.
