It didn’t sold well. Applejack lack chemistry with any boy in the show. Most interaction she had was with Big Mac, Spike and Discord. None of them is a boyfriend material for her.

after almost 10 years Caramel is still the only straight ship of AJ. She really was neglected storywise for the sake of her family members.

Rarity is close enough in age to Spike that in a few years time, there’d be few obstacles in the path of their relationship. Discord seems to be physically in his 70s and is chronologically well over 2000 years old. Fluttershy is at most 18.
