Okay, so… i read through your comment, and came out on the other side with the impression you were more or less agreeing with me, because my point was that the characterization was from season 4 and thus was all wrong for season 7. So… go us?

Actually it does matter. It doesn’t matter if DHX started work during season 4, this is still character regression, plain and simple. If it came out during season 4, then it would be fine. But it came out during season 7, and is meant to be a transition between seasons 7 and 8, so that is where and when it takes place. TIMING is EVERYthing.

Because inserting a few cameos is a much later and quicker thing than writing the entire script.

Same reason Flash Sentry showed up in season 4 despite him having no place in the overall storyline other than to be an EQG cameo.
 
If Starlight had been there as a character do you really think she’d have let things go down the way they did? She was just a background character.

It doesn’t matter where DHX wants it in the timeline, characterization is about when it was written, and this was started back in season 4. If they wrote it today, they would have had a more experienced Twilight and a mane six that is more in sync from working together in different pairing for three more seasons.

I’m saying this isn’t season 7 Twi. The movie was begun back in season 4, and all the characterization matches. That’s why Twi is still uncertain what her place is as a princess. By season 7 these misunderstandings about motives would not have been a thing.

Why yes, season 4 Twilight, that’s true. You were missing so much character development. I wish they’d waited on writing the movie until you’d matured a little more.
