I asked this on the previous page, but I’m curious as to what folks would feel about this:
 
Rarity here actually gives Spike “a ride”, but it’s platonic with no deep love. It gets Spike more deeply invested into wanting to prove to her that his affection is genuine and not a fleeting hormone rush. Thus, explicit/romantic (however this comic is gonna handle those parts if they come up) is done, Spike has a taste of “freedom in this new life”, and he has a very deep set reasoning to want to protect her and prove himself to her.
