Oh wow, it’s not just a resemblance, she’s pretty much the same pony but with a different eye color and cutie mark.

The pegasus has got a strong resemblance to Sugar Cookie.
 
And the mare to the left could be Fiery Fricket’s niece.

Yeah, there used to be a time when these three would have had names, agreed-upon personalities and likely as not ships by the end of the week.
 
I suppose it’s harder to get the proper inertia for this sort of thing, these days. The fandom was likely a lot smaller when the really popular background ponies took off. Plus, I’m fairly certain most of them were developed in Season 1, so there would also be the fact that they would have been conceptualized when the fandom was still in its early stages of development. Between a larger and more settled fandom and a greater variety of canon characters, I don’t imagine there’s a very receptive environment to new major bp’s coming into the spotlight anymore.
 
It’s kind of a pity, too, considering how visually diverse the background extras have been getting in recent seasons. There was a time when designs like these would have been the sort used for characters with substantial speaking roles, and the background cast would have been the same couple models with mixed-and-matched manes and tails and color schemes.

It’s nice getting new background ponies, even if they don’t seem to get names anymore these days.
