Alright, alright, let’s not have a shipping war in the comments section. I just made it because I thought it was funny.

The hate is because he’s not really his own unique character, just a male version of Maud who likes sticks instead of rocks and is annoying.
I’ve said this before, but it still stands.
It would’ve worked a lot better if he was maybe an eccentric geologist who loves rocks and minerals as much as Maud, but shows a lot more emotion and with over the top personality.
It would be a good example of the people with different personalities can love the same thing, and maybe that draws them together type “trope”.

Some people just don’t like this couple. Some people just don’t like Maudbriar himself. Some people don’t like Maud. They have reasons. Whether they have legit reasons or not is debatable.
I find it stupid that some of you guys and gals get worked up over a rather innocuous and inoffensive character for petty reasons. and bonus points of inanity if you happen to like some other character(s) for those very reasons, especially if they actually happen to be or were once unlikable at times.
It’s criticize not criticism.
And it’s not a matter of head canon buddy. It’s a matter of poor writing.
Just having a character end up with a character who’s just like them is so stupid and overused.
@Drama King
I don’t think it’s fair to just think someone’s a corporate lacky just because they’re being dumb.
But I don’t disagree with the fact his avatar is a duck and what that can easily mean.
Edited
Says the user named drama king, implying that he likes to start drama.
See, I can use ad hominem attacks too, but it’s never a valid argument. Neither is calling me a shill just because you disagree with me. If you don’t have any actual counterarguments, your comment is worthless.
Mudbriar is a villains henchmen.
The villain is Maud.
That is your headcanon.
@chubbyninja89
You cannot criticism the show for going against your headcanon.
My thoughts exactly.
I just think that making Mudbriar just be pretty much a male version of Maud, who just so happens to like sticks instead of rocks is dumb.
I would’ve liked to Maud’s boyfriend be somewhat of an eccentric but with a soft spot for Maud where he’s willing to take things serious or be loving.
Like maybe he showed her a beautiful crystal cave that had multicolored gems in it or something and Maud began to really like him after that.

Actually, I think Maud is one of those Opposites Attract kind of personalities. I very much doubt she would fall for a “stick in the mud” type of personality. I could see Twilight or Twilight2 (Moon Dancer) falling for him as they are eccentrics and obsessed with specifics.
I agree with you.
I just think that Mudbriar is an annoying male version of Maud.
I think it would’ve been a lot more interesting if Maud got a boyfriend who was an eccentric lover of geology and not just exactly like her.
And Maud likes him because he makes her happy and even makes her laugh.
@Background Pony #B5D0
Agreed.
Edited
Because Mudbrian never needed to happen and is a trash character. He’d have been better off as a villain’s henchman.
How the heck is that a problem?
Second is that he’s intended to be not likable in order to make the episode’s moral relatable. This of course multiplies the first problem.
Third…well, this is a strange moral for a show that aims for fun. Taking the lesson at face value, it’s pretty painful. There should have been a moment at the end that redeemed him in some way as a “reward” for Pinkie putting up with him, but instead we’re just left with the Braddiest Brad ever to Brad.
“First crush” just means the first time she has a crush on somepony, nothing past that. It does not need to involve dating. The colt in question wouldn’t even need to know about it.
This is starting to sound like some sort of personal vendetta - please stop.
shakes head in disappointment
You know that just saying “you’re salty” doesn’t necessarily true right?
But I’m done with you. It’s painfully obvious that you’re just trying to troll and start stupid arguments. I’ll let the mods deal with you.
I’ll just have my daily salt from ya. It’s fun

Seeing how you’re not my direct family member, it’s not rude, it’s just truthful. Get over it.
Edited
See? Rude again
Firstly. I kinda doubt it, but whatever.
Secondly. We’re not family, so don’t call me fam.
that’s a pokemon reference, fam
Yeah. And now that I noticed the quote of under his name being “Y’all are stupid!”, it’s not surprising that he’s just trying to start a stupid argument.
I agree and Sweetie Bell is the one that makes most sense since Scootaloo is the tomboyish type like Rainbow probably doesn’t want to date so soon and applebloom well she could be seen as too childish still, Sweetie Bell specially because of her sister is the one that seems most mature and likely…
Then again there could be bad implications because of her being so young.
