Well yeah, saying he didn’t have any character before is an obvious exaggeration. He had it. It just wasn’t as obvious.

I’m not even denying that. But saying he had more character in those few seconds compared to the movies? Nope.
Same. I think a lot of the drama involving him being a love interest of a main character kind of got in the way of people seeing any other sides of him as a character. (And I’m not just pointing at the fandom when I say this. The people making these movies focused too much on the romance side of things before fleshing the poor guy out as a character on his own.)
