So, you’re saying that Applejack should have given into what basically amounted to blackmail?

This is why I liked that episode. It didn’t have a new episode, but it showed that the lesson she learned in her last focus episode ACTUALLY STUCK. I’m sick of characters like Fluttershy reverting back to status quo constantly. It makes me feel like their episodes were a waste of time.

Haven’t seen the rest of my posts about that episode Takuto?
Basically she’s a damned fool for not utilising SCIENCE!!! to beef up production, meet demand, and by harvesting quicker, prevent wastage/spoilage of crop.
The episode basically paints everyone but Pinkie as luddites. (we’ve seen at least she has a thing for machines in episode 5.)
That’s the short short version anyway.

Applejack is best pony because the manes rather desperately need a bastion of sanity.

I don’t really recall stating that AJ was the straight mare, though she does an infinitely better job than Twilight. Since the origin of the series is Twilight gaining understanding, and for the record Twilight freaking out is not contrary to her nature, or even uncommon, which is kind of the joke, she fails as the straight mare right off the bat. I would say that Spike is the straight man of the show, and given his outsider status that makes perfect sense.

Applejack is not the straight mare, she is the common sense of the group, to Rainbow Dash’s ego, Pinkie’s insanity, Fluttershy’s timidness, Rarity’s drama queen nature, and Twilight’s complete lack of social acumen Applejack stands relatively in the middle. Which, by your own statements, is why episodes like ’Applebuck season and ‘The Last Roundup’ work so well, since her stubbornness gets in the way of her common sense.

Does this give her less screen time in a show about learning from your mistakes? Yes.

Does that make her inherently boring? No.

@Appletini
I like how you state vague things and say they have more potential than anything else.
Then again I shouldnt be surprised by Applejack fans at this point

@Candrew
Granted, but that is in contrast to her normal nature.
And AJ has hardly stepped up to fill her shoes so it is immaterial

^ Except she freaks out with regularity whenever the unexpected happens which kind of undermines her straight mare status. Part of the reason the Crystal Empire episodes work so well is because it shows signs of Twilight gaining the ability to stay calm in the face of the unexpected.

@BP Wasn’t trying to make a defense, just commenting on that statement in particular. I think normalcy itself can be interesting in juxtaposition, but that’s more speaking to potential than anything that’s actually happened. :P

Is she not typically the one who gives out the lessons?
She is most often the straightman, which is why her freakouts are seen as funny

@Appletini

I was referring to personality, not power level.

And episode speculation is hardly much of a defense
Appletini

@BP “It’s almost like a normal character in a cartoon show is boring or something.”

Not necessarily, being the odd one out in a group of otherwise mythical creatures like unicorns and pegasi, and not having some wacky physics manipulation like Pinkie has potential. Especially if there was an episode to actually take a focus on that disparity.
Background Pony #FB13
Good job AJ. It only took you 4 episodes to learn to accept help and show vulnerability.

Especially since the end of Look Before You Sleep was supposed to have covered this
Background Pony #FB13
>people say Applejack is boring
>Applejack fans shoot back by saying she is the most well balanced and stable personality
>implying that AJ’s critics dont realize that

It’s almost like a normal character in a cartoon show is boring or something.

And since we have Twilight as the focus of the show and the one who is generally the rational advice giver, there’s no point to AJ.

And I barely consider someone who breaks down and martyrs herself because she has a job to do and refuse help twice (TLR, AS) to be normal.

Particularly when in one case her farm depends on it and in the other you would think she would want to get back to her family ASAP.

But her purpose isnt to be a real character on her own, just to play off of other characters.
