Thundercats Original: ugly-ass characters
Thundercats Roar: ugly-ass characters
They really need full-on furry artists instead of uncanny valley anime wannabes (Original), or fat-ass SU wannabes (Roar).
@Chuy Ryu
Yes, nevermind that its made specifically for children.
But continue pulling quotes from authors that you don’t bother reading their works anymore. I’m sure you’ll convince me into believing that Thundercats Roar is shit.
@Ledvi
wait really? Roger Ebert said that the movie was terrible? that’s a bit harsh, I mean its by no means a perfect movie and the plot holes are the size of the grand canyon but a decent movie that had heart
“I’m just tired of “it’s for kids” = “you can’t be critical of this” I find such lines of thought exceedingly short sighted.”
Because it is for kids. If you try to make a kids show too serious to yours and adult audience’s liking, then you’re going to lose the younger audience. When was the last time you’ve heard of a popular critic that criticized a children’s film or cartoon show and can be taken seriously at the same time? And please don’t say Doug Walker.
Remember when Roger Ebert said that the Rugrats Movie was terrible film when it was out in theater and the audience took him seriously? Yeah me neither.
@Salamenace
I mean if the bitchfest were coming from 2011 fans, I can understand since the show ended on a cliffhanger, but the original fans? Goddann they’re sad to even talk about.
@Background Pony #5F16
“It was a cheaply made toy commercial from the ’80s. If they want to make something goofy with it, I say more power to them.”
You do realise we are on an image board dedicated to a rebooted 80s toy commercial cartoon right? Is this irony on purpose? We are living proof that a reboot can be done right. MLP was never judged for what it is, but for what it was, and has had to overcome that. Thundercats is the opposite, in that people actually have high expectations. If you’re going to make a goofy reboot, pick sensibly. Do we really want more Teen Titan Go cartoons? For the last 20 years if you asked me what show needs rebooting the most, I’d say Gargoyals. But if it came back in this style? Just imagining that is making me sypathise a lot with these Thundercat fans. I am sure you have something you’d feel the same way about too.
Having said all that, I never watched the original, the anime reboot, and of course I have not see this new series.
I also enjoy Teen Titans Go. Took me about 3 episodes to enjoy it though, cause I didn’t know it was a parody retelling of the original series. It’s not bad really. But without a doubt, it’s not something a single person actually wanted. So long as the main series remains unfinished, TTG is a dick move. And it only makes us want the real series all the more.
@Darth Prime
Yeah, the new Ducktales is pretty great. David Tennant, man. Another one that the nostalgia freaks pooped their pants over because the art was different.
The key difference of course being is want them to have something that isn’t dumbed down and preferably something that anyone of any age can enjoy like that show about the horseies for instance.
You mean that show about the horsies that everyone immediately dismissed as cash-grab reboot garbage based exclusively on the art style, which turned out to be really good when they actually watched it? ;)
And as for the target demo they’re kids they’re in their formative years they don’t have much in the way of judging the quality of things yet which is why I hate the “it’s for kids” “argument” because that just makes it worse how are they supposed to know what’s worthwhile or not if all the media they have to consume is crap.
You know, the “kids are too stupid to know what’s good for them, so adults have to tell them what they’re allowed to enjoy” argument really isn’t fundamentally different than what you’re trying to argue against.

They certainly have the right to voice their opinions, yes.
As much as I have the right to voice my opinion that they are all acting like a bunch of entitled man-babies when they do so.

Nobody knows anything about this show yet because it’s only just barely been fucking announced. And yet all these fucking neckbeards are having a big ol’ circle jerk about how this the harbinger of the death of all art and creativity because Cheetara doesn’t look exactly like the furry fetish starter kit they remember from 30 years ago.
It’s perfectly okay to look at a reboot of a children’s entertainment property, decide that the new direction isn’t for you, and leave it for the target demographic to make their own decisions without throwing a fucking temper tantrum.
Just so we’re clear I didn’t say it was going to be shit I said “if it turns out to shit” it could turn out to be fantastic however unlikely that may be.
As for the so called “circle jerk” people who have invested themselves in a franchise both time and money wise have a right to express their opinions on the direction of said franchise is going in they like this world these characters and care how it’s represented so when they see something that has the name on it that looks like it’s just a homogenized version of the thing they like made up to look like the most popular thing right now (TTGO of course which in turn reminds them of the last time something like that was tried with PPG and we all know how that turned out) it’s understandable they are going to be miffed.

THIS RIGHT HERE. I get that are people are starved for action cartoons and are still bummed about the 2011 cartoon, but try to act like adults.

2011 and original look pretty much the same. Well, original looks like music band, and 2011 looks like Na’vi.
like the 2011 reboot?

I’m not asking for things to be made “too serious” by my standards I’m saying nothing should be above critism.
See for yourself.

Do I sound like I’m crying? You see tears in my eyes?

You can cry all you like, but its the truth. Not all cartoon must be cater to kids and adults at the same time.
And even if it did, its going to be short living since kids are unfamiliar with the franchise’s name. I mean look how Thundercats 2011 got cancelled.
Fucking thank you.
And people wonder why no one can take western animation fandom seriously.
No need to be mean to him

That ya do that you do. Just as you can ignore them much like how you say they could ignore this new thing that upset them.
