she can’t possibly shoot that rifle. those topless oil lamps go out in the rain. it shouldn’t be raining in the trenches. that’s how you get trench foot. trench warfare should not be a thing. barbed wire shouldn’t have been invented. soldiers shouldn’t be beautiful ponies. soldiers should be machines, not real people who are terrified and traumatized from being thrown into a horrible situation that they never, ever signed up for. and that war… that war should never have been. or as rudyard kipling wrote after his son died in the trenches,

well, it’s not usually the guys who stay home pining for their lover gone overseas, swearing to stay true to her even if she never comes back, despite other amorous suitresses advertising their availability. I’m totally cool with guys who do that, but… they never ever make songs about them. so it’s a woman singing about how her bonnie lies over the ocean, while she stays home.
 
bonnie is actually a french word that means ‘good’, i.e. ‘bon appetite.’ so… women also call their lovers ‘bonnie.’
