RIP pony nobody cared about (surely the CMC didn’t). Spike is still in control of this 4D chess game despite this little hiccup. As it was firmly established in fiction - luck is also a skill.  
On a side note - if anyone remembers one of my old Berzie comics, I actually explicitly wrote that I’d kill her off eventually… And you thought I was just joking. I had this part written down, sitting in my freezer for a long long time :V Oh, and a funeral actually happened in the MLP TV series (the hearts and hooves episode).
