@PurpleWonderPower
I have to disagree with you on that.

It’s not the perfect Big Mac pairing, because it was slapped together out of literally nowhere. And all because a few stupid people got mad at the idea that two persons/ponies who might be interested in each other might be related by most likely a 3rd or 4th great grand parent. It’s not like they’re first or second cousins.

And I personally don’t subscribe to any of these three pairings.

@Background Pony #2A7F
No, he doesn’t.

SugarMac is a stupid pairing. And like I told PurpleWonder, that’s because it was just slapped together because a few stupid people cried incest because the Pie and Apple Families might be related, by the slimmest of margins no doubt.

You wrote “Blanket”? I loved that story! It was super adorable! And you do have a point about Sugarmac not having any onscreen build up, but I don’t really mind that, because I think it was actually kind of cute how it was introduced quite unexpectedly.

I just think that her actions and responses to things are basically what anybody could be like. She doesn’t have a personality that’s unique to her and her alone. You could replace her with Coco Pommel, an nearly equally bland character, and nothing would really change, except for their interests and voices.

For example, with Cheese Sandwich, a character who has been in only one episode, was given such depth in less than 21 minutes. He had dreams, a past that explained the way he is now, and a purpose in that episode. He wasn’t simply a plot device, and rivaled Pinkie in a way that was more or less realistic and interesting.

With Sugar Belle, she was introduced as simply a character that was against Starlight’s idea that equality was good. She was a plot device, and she even shared this with three other characters (who also are in desperate need for character development). When she started being Mac’s girlfriend, her much-needed character development was thrown out the window so she could be a typical love interest. I don’t expect her to have as much substance as the main characters, but at least some that showed she wasn’t a cardboard cutout love interest would be great.

Now don’t get me wrong, I adore Sugar Belle, Coco Pommel, Party Favor, Night Glider, and Double Diamond, but all of them need character development separately, without an unneeded romance plot that doesn’t add to the story or the characters at all. Heck, I ship partybelle, personally, but I would never want it to be canon because it would be unnecessary to the story. Sugarmac literally came out of nowhere, just like partybelle would have. Love stories are not always necessary to shows like My Little Pony, especially since the show focuses on friendship.

Now, I write romance fanfiction all the time for fun (I wrote the flimjack fanfic, “Blanket”, which you have commented on before, on both fimfiction and DeviantArt), and I love romance, but it needs to have some sort of build-up before it’s an actual relationship. In my flimjack fanfic, Flim and Applejack do not decide to suddenly start dating. There’s still some sort of uncertainty between the two. The fanfic itself focuses on the possibility that what happened in the fanfic will eventually lead to something more in the future.

Sugarmac failed in that there was absolutely no build-up.

Does that make sense?

Btw, I’m not trying to change your mind. I just want you to understand where I’m coming from.

Just personally, my issue with all these ships is that they take away from the characters. In the episodes that focus on sugarmac, we don’t really learn any sort of character trait (not interest or random quirk) from either Sugar Belle or Big Mac. Big Mac is shown to be just a lovestruck puppy who can’t make good decisions because he’s so focused on his infatuation with Sugar Belle. Sugar Belle was already a bit bland when she was introduced, and since she’s started dating Big Mac, we still haven’t gotten any substance from her. She still seems like a typical female baker. She may have been annoyed at Feather Bangs and Big Mac flirting with her, but any girl would have been annoyed with that.

I just want substance in those characters, and these ships just don’t give me that.

I respect your opinion, and I’m not saying this to hate on you or your ship, but please understand others’ points of view.

Oh, who cares about what Trixie and her cronies think? Sugar Belle and Big Mac are perfect for each other! Always will be! Way more perfect than Marble or Cheerilee! Sugarmac is forever!

Sometimes I compare Fluttershy to Courtney from Total Drama despite both being different characters from different shows, but I just can’t help it thanks to ship wars, and the aftermath where both girls go from nice to villianously mean and angry, after both rival ships became canon (Sugarmac and Gwuncan).

Also, I knew I was gonna get crucified for blaming a ship I dislike for Fluttershy’s lack of kindness since “It HaS nOtHiNg To dO WiTh ShIpPiNg”. If her rudeness towards innocent ponies in later seasons has nothing to do with shipping, then Fluttermac shippers shouldn’t have Fluttershy involved in the ship war back in 2012, nor make Flutterbitch vs. Cheerilee fanfics since the ship wasn’t canon in the first place.

It’s canon, but unlike Sugarmac and Cheerimac, it’s a good couple and don’t turn a kindhearted pony into an evil bitch like Gwuncan did to Courtney. (And no, Chrysalis doesn’t count because she was evil from the start. Change my mind.)

That doesn´t make any sense.

@Darth Shy
So?

I don’t even care for the ship. And if I give a reason why, I would be crucified because people tell me that Fluttershy’s lack of kindness in recent seasons (especially in episodes like “Fame and Misfortune” and “Fake it Till You Make It”) has nothing to do with shipping.
